And so it begins…

My name is Aaron Markham and I serve at The Church at Cherrydale (TCC) in college ministry. I want to introduce you to our awesome team serving in Greenville, SC this summer. I get the major blessing of equipping and guiding our Summer LINKers (?slinkers? from here on). I graduated two years ago from Furman University with no idea what the next step would be for me.

So, I thought being a slinker would be a great opportunity to serve the local church in Greenville and figure out what I wanted to do next. Little did I know that two years later the Lord would allow me the opportunity to lead three awesome students for a summer. I am grateful for opportunities to grow as a minister of the gospel with Summer LINK and Generation LINK (see Matt Rogers? post yesterday)

Our three students serving this summer are Kristen Bowen, David Watson, and Austin Cartee (see picture; left to right: me, Kristen, David, Austin). Of course, we had to do our orientation meeting at Yogurt Mountain!

Kristen is a rising senior at North Greenville University and is an intercultural studies major. She will be serving in our children?s ministry. Kristen spent time serving overseas right after high school and loves seeing the expansion of God?s Kingdom.

David just graduated from North Greenville as a Christian studies major. David plans on attending Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall. David will be serving with TCC?s first church plant, The Church at Greer Station (TCGS). He will be serving under the pastors at TCGS each week and coming over to TCC for our time together as a Summer LINK team.

Austin graduated from Wade Hampton High School last week and will be attending Anderson University in the fall (shout out to our friends over at Renewal Church of?Anderson). Austin is extremely gifted in music and has a great love for students, so Austin will serve in both the music and youth ministries. If you are at TCC on a Sunday morning, no doubt that you will find him shredding on the drums and greeting you with a kind smile.

Our focus in Greenville this summer will be to grow in our love for Jesus through the reading of the Scriptures, specifically the Gospel of John. There is no greater news than what John the Baptist declares in John 1:29, ?Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!? We will also be seeking to grow in intentional evangelism as a team. Be on the lookout in a couple of weeks for an update from one of our slinkers.
