SummerLINK Seattle: “To Be Marveled”

SummerLINK Seattle: “To Be Marveled”

As our second week in Seattle comes to a close we again have more stories to tell and more things to be grateful for. (It’s kind of hard to believe it’s only been two weeks.) Our stories begin Sunday morning.

Our first time attending an Essential gathering as a team was a great experience. We got to hear Pastor Warren share the good news with some visitors. Some of those visitors were people all of us had been praying for to show up and they did. It was so sweet to watch God answer prayers right in front of us.

The next day we all got prepared for what the rest of the week would hold for us. Half of the team would go work after-school care at Odle Middle School and the other half would do an after-school soccer camp for the kids at Lake Hills Elementary. I was with the soccer camp team and I must say it went well. The first two days were pretty rough with trying to organize things and figuring out ways to keep 6 to 10 year old kids interactive for 4 hours. By day 3 of camp we had almost everything nailed. God kept adding more kids day by day. We started off the week with 25 and ended with 37. Our next week’s soccer camp is already full and we are now discussing about how we can add a few more spots so that more kids can come. This week’s soccer camp was a huge success and we are looking forward to what God is going to do next week! As far as the other team I heard that it went well too. They loved spending time with the kids, and the feeling was mutual.

Tuesday, we got to go as a team to watch the Seattle Mariner’s play against the Boston Red Sox. It was an awesome game, but sadly, we lost. Which is okay in the end because we all had an amazing time!
Mariner’s Game versus the Red Sox. We had a great time as a team!

Thursday, we had a noteworthy time of Bible Study. (Where the title of this blog came to be.)

I believe all of us noticed that the “honeymoon” phase was over. After spending two weeks in the same area with the same people things began to start settling in. We know we are a team. We know we are in Seattle. We know we all live in the Purple Door and we know where the tinfoil and milk is. Now, I believe, the only thing we are going to have a hard time remembering is knowing why we are here. I write this to encourage our team but to also encourage the other teams that are serving in different areas of the world. As we watch in wonder of who God is and what He is doing, we can never let the enemy redirect our eyes to the less important things. To the shadows if you will. There is going to be conflict. We are going to be tired and aggravated. We will become impatient and forget who we serve for somedays. However, that is our flesh that speaks. I personally have learned to make myself sit and marvel at God’s character. When I focus myself on the majesty of God, I realize how unimportant I am in the scheme of things and how much more important the glory of God is. My point is no matter how you feel, and no matter what the circumstances are, take time to marvel at who God is. When we remember that ultimately this life isn’t about us it takes a lot of stress off the table. At the same time, when we remember that this life is about bringing glory to the Father in all we do and we begin to take this relationship seriously, I know around the corner awaits blessings that God waits to grant us. Don’t forget that you are a child of God and you are sent to share the message of hope that this world is completely desperate for.

Be Marveled at what God has done and what He is doing
