THE SPIRITUAL CLIMATE OF PENDLETON

With four colleges within a 15-minute drive and the Anderson I-85 Corridor attracting new residents to Pendleton for educational and job opportunities, the limited number of evangelical churches in and around Pendleton cannot keep pace with the community’s growth. While Pendleton is experiencing rapid growth, with its population expected to increase by 50% by 2030, its spiritual landscape is notably in decline. A key factor in this decline is the shortage of evangelical churches in the area, with the existing churches already filled to capacity.

GOD AT WORK IN PENDLETON

In early 2023, the elders and members of Crosspoint Church in Clemson, SC, began praying for direction on planting a church in the rapidly growing Pendleton community. With 12% of Crosspoint’s members residing in Pendleton and a conviction to be a “church that plants churches,” Crosspoint became convinced that establishing an autonomous church — not a satellite campus or second location — was the next step in fulfilling its mission to make disciples of all people for God’s glory.

After prayer and discussion, Crosspoint Church voted in August 2024 to plant Village Church of Pendleton. Committed to the same mission, Village Church exists to make disciples in Pendleton and to the ends of the earth.

Led by Pastor Jason Finley and lay elder Matt Minto, along with 100+ founding members and their families, Village Church of Pendleton launched as a new church in Pendleton in April 2025.

THE PENDLETON RESIDENCY

It’s an exciting time in Charleston as we continue to expand the ministry of Generation LINK at Citadel Square. The city is in need of the gospel and the church is in need of leaders and laborers to bring it to them.

Our focus is on leadership development through hands-on ministry experience in the context of gospel community. Our Generation LINK residents will enjoy a front row seat on the inner workings of church revitalization and church planting. Through intentional training and participation in various church ministries our residents will not only be personally developed but will have the opportunity to use their gifts and abilities to serve.

In addition to leading in ministries of the church, our Generation LINK residents will also engage in outreach to youth, college students, neighborhoods and the Charleston community.
