20 Jun God is Working
Hello, we are the SummerLink team in Ann Arbor, Michigan, serving at Treasuring Christ Church. Our group consists of 6 people from AZ, SC, and GA, that God has brought together to serve the city. Everyone is excited to see what God does for us and the people we meet. On a weekly basis, we try to reach the college community at the University of Michigan. We hand out popsicles, evangelize to students through surveys, help at the Maize and Blue Cupboard on campus, and host events for the students on campus. This has been our biggest ministry here because we are all college-aged, and it is easier for us to meet people on campus. We have already made great connections with people both on campus and in the dorms we are currently staying in. We already have one student who has started to come to church through our evangelism and another who has a genuine interest in visiting the church. Some of our other weekly rhythms include attending staff meetings and discipleship with the staff. In a few weeks, we will be doing something called Serve A2Y, where we serve the community as a church. We will serve local businesses and the community at large with gospel intention and focus.
One of our main challenges when we arrived was trying to figure out the bus system! We have been navigating this difficult challenge, but we have had some fun with it as well. We already have countless stories we could tell about navigating around the city.
God has been teaching us a lot about ourselves and ministry. As a group, we are learning patience, flexibility, and inventiveness. Individually, we are all learning something very personal to ourselves because only God can work in this way. God has placed us where he needs us, where he wants us. God will teach us what we need to learn to be a better follower of Him. We will all return to our communities and be better equipped to share the gospel. This is a significant success because God is working in us; if nothing else, we have already gotten interest through our work, which is cause for celebration. We want to pray that God will continue working in all the people we reach after we leave. We thank you all for your interest and prayers for our mission.
