29 Jun Kickball in the Park
The Anderson SummerLINK Team is continuing to enjoy their time together as we continue to grow, serve, and worship alongside each other. We have continued to enjoy getting to know families in our church through host home dinners, we have hosted two youth events so that students can have the opportunity to build relationships with each other and families can invite neighbors.
We have seen God work in some great ways, such as during our second outreach night, which we spent heading up a youth event for Renewal.? The event was an evening kickball game and eating popsicles in a park that a couple families from the church live nearby. We planned it as a simple youth event, and early in the evening God brought a couple of neighborhood kids into our game. ?This opportunity turned into a moment of outreach as these two children were from a Muslim family that one of our church?s families has been seeking to love and get to know. Both kids enjoyed themselves and we were glad to get to interact with their father. After the two children went home towards the end of the evening our plans were changed. We thought we were going to enjoy a warm summer evening in the park and eat popsicles, but thunder rolls came from the distance.? After hearing this we decided to go to the house of one of our church?s families since it was within walking distance of the park.? There we enjoyed a game of Pictionary with the students as we all continued to build relationships.? While both these things were not in the overarching plan for the evening, we learned a valuable lesson of how God can work despite our plans, and all the work and organization that goes along with preparing an event.?
Throughout the first half of this summer we have seen a great deal of growth in ourselves.? It has been great for all of us as the team has shared many great moments with one another.? We are looking forward to the things still to come for the rest of the summer.
