20 Jul SLINK Rock Hill Update
Wow, it has been a full week in the world of SummerLINK! Praise the Lord for all that He has allowed us to do. It all got kicked off on Sunday with the exciting reveal that our SummerLINK director, Trell & his wife Lauren are having a baby boy!
MONDAY night we had Pizza & Prayer as we discussed John Onwuchekwa’s 9Marks book Prayer. We discussed the importance of both individual and corporate prayer, and how we can practically grow in these areas. We let Jesus’ teachings on prayer be the center point of our discussion. Intern Terrell Staufer learned that out of all of the aspects of life the disciples could learn from, they only asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.
TUESDAY Morning was full of water, fun, and friends. This week at Fun in the Sun, Jennie led a lesson on how we serve a God that is self-sufficient. He does not depend on anything– not even His own creation. (Praise the Lord for that!) After the lesson, the kids (and interns) enjoyed the BEST weather we have had yet and when the sun seemed like too much, Popsicles saved the day! The kids were also super excited to take Kristen’s go-pro down the slip n ‘ slide.
At Night we had a sweet time of fellowship with The Hammond’s. We ate a meal with them and got to spend time talking about our walks with the Lord, the importance of reading scripture out loud, and spend some time in prayer. Not to mention that we got to eat homemade ice cream and brownies at the same time! They also offered the young couples advice on how to seek the Lord in marriage and love each other well. Intern Jay Camp most enjoyed getting to learn how the play the Dulcimer and Psaltery from Mrs. Barbara.
“It was a cool experience learning something from another church member that they were so passionate about.”
Jay Camp, Intern.
WEDNESDAY Night we broke up into our classes ranging from pre-K through middle school and taught a lesson on the cost of following Jesus. As we walked through parts of Luke 9 & 14 we discussed how although following Jesus is hard, every trial and hardship is worth suffering. With some of the younger children we focused on what it means to suffer for Christ. And with the older ones, we discussed practical ways we can prepare to face these trials and how the hope we have in Christ can sustain us through all.
“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” Romans 5:3
THURSDAY Night we had a wonderful dinner with the Parrish’s! Jerry led us in a devotional about what is truly important and how when we are making God what is important, we should be set apart from the world. Some notable events include Jojo catching 2 fish, Casey spotting a snake, Cristopher doing parkour, and learning lots of interesting facts about each other during 2 truths & a lie! (I’m sure any intern would love to tell you some of these). Jojo’s favorite part was listening to Susan and Jerry talk & getting to spend time with the other interns!
SATURDAY Morning we served at the Palmetto Women’s Center helping with various projects. It was so encouraging hearing about how the Lord is using the center to change the hearts and lives of so many women and men who are facing the decision of whether or not to choose to have their child. We served this incredible mission by cleaning out a shed, weeding, spreading a LOT of mulch, and a few other various projects. This was an incredible time of fellowship, hard-work, and a lot of sweat, but we are so thankful to have had the opportunity to serve the Kingdom by serving the Palmetto Women’s center.
We are so thankful for another week! We are thankful for the time we have gotten to spend together, and for the time we have gotten to spend with families from Park, and for the time we have gotten to serve with kids and with the Palmetto Women’s center.
How you can be praying for us this week:
- Pray that the Lord would give us a better understanding of corporate prayer as we finish up John O’s book.
- Pray for the weather to hold out so that we can have Fun in the Son & Wednesday night outside.
- Pray that the Lord would give us continued joy and endurance as we go into the 3rd week.
- Pray that we would continue to grow together & grow in deeper relationship with the people and families in our church.
Thank you for loving us and praying for us faithfully,
SLINK Rock Hill
